Privacy Policy

Real Estate Know How ("we", "us") is operated by Wise Raven Media Inc., a company incorporated in Nova Scotia, Canada. We run realestateknowhow.ca and sell educational material for Canadian home buyers and sellers. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information — your name and email address when you purchase or create an account.
• Purchase information — billing name and address, collected by our payment processor at checkout.
• Messages — anything you send us through our contact form or by email.
• Optional content — profile details, quiz or questionnaire answers, and community posts, if you choose to provide them.

We never see or store your full credit card number. Card details are entered directly with Stripe, our payment processor, and are never transmitted to our servers.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — pages and lessons viewed, and your progress through the material.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, and referring page.
• Cookies — a session cookie to keep you logged in, a referral cookie (30 days) if you arrive through a referral link, and advertising cookies described below.

How we use your information

• To deliver the product you purchased and give you access to your member area.
• To process payments, issue receipts, and handle refunds.
• To provide customer support.
• To send you information about your purchase, and — if you have consented — occasional emails about our material. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
• To measure and improve our website and advertising.
• To credit referral commissions where a referral link was used.
• To detect and prevent fraud, and to meet our legal and tax obligations.

Advertising and analytics

Meta (Facebook and Instagram)

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram. To measure whether those ads work, we use the Meta Pixel in your browser and Meta's Conversions API on our server. When you take an action such as starting checkout or completing a purchase, we send Meta a record of that event.

Where we send identifying details such as your email address or name, they are irreversibly hashed (SHA-256) before transmission — Meta receives a scrambled value used only to match the event to an existing account, not your plain email address. We also send your IP address, browser user agent, and Meta's own advertising cookie identifiers.

You can limit this through your Meta ad preferences, or by using browser settings or an ad blocker that blocks advertising pixels.

Website analytics

We use a self-hosted Umami analytics instance to count visits and see which pages are used. It does not use advertising cookies and does not build a profile of you across other websites.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who need it to run this business:

• Stripe — payment processing, refunds, and fraud prevention.
• Meta Platforms — advertising measurement, as described above.
• Our hosting and content providers — to host the website and store your account and progress data.
• Our email provider — to send account and marketing email.
• Professional advisors and authorities — where required by law, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

Storage outside Canada

Some of our service providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union. While your information is in another country it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities of that country. We only use providers that commit to appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active, since your purchase includes ongoing access. We keep transaction records for the period required by Canadian tax law (currently six years). If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information other than what we are legally required to retain.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
• Withdraw consent to marketing at any time, and to ask us to delete your account.
• Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are not satisfied with how we have handled your concern.

To exercise any of these, email support@realestateknowhow.ca from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days.

Security

The site is served over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords and payment data are handled by specialist providers, and access to customer data is limited to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

This site is intended for adults buying or selling residential property. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
